Medication Reminders Provided by a Home Health Aide

In the State of Florida, medication assistance in the home is regulated to ensure the safety and well-being of each patient. At Accountable Home Care, Inc., we adhere strictly to these standards, providing families with peace of mind through clear communication and appropriate caregiver referrals.

Our model exclusively refers licensed and certified caregivers, including Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Home Health Aides (HHAs), who are trained to assist with activities of daily living and provide reminders for medication intake. However, under Florida law, CNAs and HHAs are not permitted to administer medications or fill pill organizers. In most cases, a family member or spouse fills the pill box, and the caregiver gently reminds the client to take their medications as prescribed by the physician.

Medication administration and management must be performed by licensed healthcare professionals. That responsibility falls under the scope of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). These licensed professionals are authorized to administer medications, monitor for side effects, manage complex medication regimens, and communicate directly with the prescribing physician when needed.

To further support our clients, Accountable Home Care collaborates with experienced geriatric care managers who are also licensed RNs. These care managers, who are not employed by Accountable Home Care but work independently with clients, can oversee comprehensive medication management for elderly individuals who require a more hands-on clinical approach. They provide an added layer of supervision and advocacy, especially for seniors with multiple medications or chronic conditions.

Our care coordination team is here to help families understand these distinctions and ensure that every client receives the appropriate level of care. If medication management is a concern, we will guide you in selecting the right professionals and services to meet your loved one’s needs—safely, compassionately, and in full compliance with Florida regulations.
